Salsa Mississippi aims to create and foster a sanctuary of positive expression that enables the development of a community that cares for its people in mind, body and soul.
Sujan has been teaching salsa since 2003. He has taught people from all different backgrounds and nationalities. He started teaching in his home country of Nepal, then spent eight months teaching salsa in the UK. He and his wife, Sarah, established Salsa Mississippi in 2006.
Sarah began dancing in 2004. She never expected to teach, but after marrying a salsa instructor, it was a natural development. Both Sujan and Sarah are currently living in Nepal.
Shawntel began taking classes at Salsa Mississippi in 2008. She very quickly fell in love with dancing! After two years of group and private classes, she joined our teaching team in 2010. She’s danced in several local and regional performances with Salsa Mississippi, and you’ll find her out on the dance floor at all our parties and events.
Salsa Mississippi offers ZUMBA with Renee Dean. Renee has a background in both fitness and dance and brings helpful hints to you from both genres.
Salsa Mississippi offers ZUMBA with Margo Kaufman. Margo Kaufman has been dancing for 17 years and recently graduated with a Dance minor from Belhaven University in May of 2015. She has had a love for Zumba since she took her first class back in 2011 and became a licensed Zumba fitness instructor in September of 2015. Margo brings her passion and joy for dance to all her classes!
Hip Hop Aerobics
Salsa Mississippi offers Hip Hop Aerobics with Tempestt Gilmore. Tempestt is a native of Jackson, and has explored her dance talents since early childhood. Tempestt learnt ballet as a young girl, and was introduced to Modern, Jazz, and Tap dancing during her middle and high school. Tempestt choreographed her own dance routines from early childhood and is heavily influenced by hip hop dance style. Tempestt has over 15 years of Choreography experience and has given various performances. Tempestt graduated from Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN. Tempestt was the Lead Choreographer and President of her College’s hip hop dance team “BODACIOUS” for over 3 years. She has taught classes at various Community Colleges both on and off campus. Tempestt was briefly a battle dancer and is well versed in dancehall, breaking, and African based movement. Tempestt was a member of old school hip hop dance company “Epitome-No- Question” in Minneapolis, MN. She has performed at several events in the Twin Cities, and showcased original pieces in different shows; ROOTED: Tempestt describes herself as a freestyle dancer!
